Monolab 1210 from Superlative is probably the most stylish little synthesizer I’ve ever seen. It’s beautifully laid out with a deeply confident ease.

The full details are going to be available in June but from the photo, we can see the clarity of design in full flow. It’s a single oscillator mono synth with a number of selectable waveforms. I like the knob-within-a-knob approach that gives you octaves and fine-tuning on one and waveform selection and PWM on the other. The filter section lets you bring in noise and a sub-oscillator which is then normalled to the VCA.
All those sections have multiple modulation opportunities provided by the second row. It’s where we find the LFO, envelope, noise and Sample & Hold sections. The LFO has a useful Delay control and the ADSR envelopes can be gated or looped and turned into an LFO.

There are some very cool touches like multiple outputs at certain points, the Mix input, and the envelope inverter. This looks like a very well-thought-out little synth. It can also be powered from the SB01, which reminds me, whatever happened to that?…
Well, after a quick rummage, I can tell you that we first saw Superlative at Superbooth 2019 with the Space Bee SB01, its take on the Roland SH-101. That was funded on Kickstarter the same year, but the synthesizer has not yet reached the hands of any supporters. Superlative says it’s hoping to ship after the summer. Hopefully, the journey of the Monolab will be a lot smoother.

The fact that he would even show his face at the Superbooth takes a lot of….shamelessness! You are at this point con!
the stones on this guy… takes $177k of people’s money, never delivers after 4 YEARS, then shows up with a new proto? maybe they should have been spending their time making the product they owe to all those backers instead of this. I hope no one else falls for this BS.
If you read through the Kickstarter updates you’ll get a better feel for why this has taken so long. Delivery is promised this year and they’ve had to do a lot of waiting on chips on such like. I agree it’s not ideal for those who have pledged but I dont think it’s bullshit.
This is NOT about being “ideal” that’s a awful spin for Christ sake. If you’re going to report on something, at least employ some journalistic integrity! You cannot take 4 years and claim every excuse under the sun for why this an that, and still attempt to bring a “new” product to light when the one people paid for is still shrouded in a cycle of deflection and mystery! Stop covering for him!
