Genelec tops off ‘The Ones’ range with the 8381A Main monitor speakers

The Genelec 8381A is a 5-way adaptive point source main monitor designed to produce incredibly accurate stereo imaging and dynamics regardless of the room you’re using or your listening position.
This is Genelec’s 45th year in the monitor business so innovation is certainly not required. However, when a company with such prestige presents a completely new design as they have done with the 8381A, it’s worth paying attention.
Genelec 8381A: ‘The Main Ones’
The party-starting 8381A is a freestanding loudspeaker at nearly 1.5 m in height and can produce a massive 126 dB SPL with 5600 watts of amplification. The 5-way design is broken down into two sections, with a total of 9 drivers.
The coaxial system provides a 5-inch midrange driver and tweeter, surrounded by a quad 5-inch driver system for the lower midrange. With this layout, the majority of the frequency spectrum is generated from a single point source.
The top section is then completed with the front-facing 15-inch woofer, while the bottom section houses two opposing side-facing 15-inch woofers with the same adaptive LF technology as the W371A, to extend the lower range even further.

The concept behind the design is to prioritize the directivity of the sound, making the 8381A suitable in far more acoustically challenging environments than one would associate with a monitor of this kind.
With the GLM software, the process of adapting this monitor system to your listening room remains the same. When combined with the new design, this gives you far more flexibility in terms of speaker placement and listening position.
