Soundgarden guitarist finally get Guild signature models
These Guild S-100 Polara Kim Thayil models are the signature guitars for the Soundgarden guitarist. They have been nearly 30 years in the making and feature hand-wound Jason Lollar pickups.
Guild S-100 Polara Kim Thayil
The Guild S-100 Polara Kim Thayil model is available in two versions, the flagship USA Artist Edition and a Newark St. Collection production-line guitar.
USA Flagship Model
The American-made model is finished in white and part of a limited run of 30 guitars master-built in Guild’s California facility.
It has a Honduran mahogany body and neck, Guild’s ’70s era enlarged headstock with a slim neck shape specified by Thayil.
Plus, a bound Indian rosewood fretboard with mother-of-pearl block inlays, and a set of Grover Original Rotomatic tuners.

Along with a set of custom Guild USA HB-1 humbuckers hand-wound by Jason Lollar. These are also wired with a phase switch.
This model has a reproduction Guild/Mueller-style bridge and a compensated stop bar tailpiece.

Standard Edition
The more standard edition is part of Guild’s Newark St. Collection of guitars. These are typically built in South Korea, Indonesia, and China.
Which takes the price down considerably and makes them far more affordable.
It comes in black and features a similar specification which includes a mahogany body and a set neck, a ’70s large headstock with Chesterfield inlay plus a bound rosewood fretboard with pearloid block inlays.
Hardware includes a Tune-O-Matic bridge and a Guild-compensated stop bar tailpiece.
This version comes with a pair of “vintage-correct” HB-1 humbucking pickups with Alnico II magnets and an onboard phase switch.
