PRS Reclaimed Wood Vela and CE24: Limited run, limited resources
Timbers from old shacks used for 600 unique new guitars
PRS has just announced a new limited run that uses special ‘reclaimed’ woods, with the series spanning two models, the PRS Vela and a PRS CE24. The timber was taken from a couple of old wooden shacks, so well seasoned for guitar construction, then.
Reclaimed Wood
These two ‘Reclaimed’ models use Peroba Rosa and Brauna Preto, both tropical hardwoods. Some of this reclaimed timber is around 150 years old and because PRS has chosen a satin finish for both models, you can see all the amazing grain patterns, giving a sense of the heritage of these instruments.

Semi
Both models are semi-hollow, which also marks a departure from standard PRS instruments. I’m not a huge fan of the F-hole, yet somehow it works very well in combination with this natural finish and the cool, naturally aged Brazilian timbers used here. I’ve mentioned before in previous articles that I own a PRS Vela, and it’s a fantastic guitar. In fact, it’s probably my favourite PRS model. But when I saw these new limited edition models, they really impressed me.

Limited
PRS states on its site that there should be enough wood for around 600 guitars, and that you can order one via your usual PRS dealership. I would love to try the Vela model out as I’m curious to find out how it sounds compared to the standard one I own. As I’ve always had a soft spot for the CE24 models, I could easily be talked into parting with my hard-earned cash for either instrument.
I love seeing PRS guitars in non-blingy finishes. These ‘recycled’ timbres really add something to these two models. The pricing seems reasonable for unique guitars of this calibre.
