The Microsoft Surface Series 2023: Quality over quantity?
A smaller array of new offerings was launched at this week’s Surface Event in the form of the Microsoft Surface Series 2023. Less is more is the name of the game with 2 new models equipped with AI-integrated features.
Microsoft Surface Series 2023
As one of the largest investors in ChatGPT manufacturer OpenAI, rumours were already circulating this year regarding Microsoft’s new developments in AI-assisted integration. Meanwhile, the hardware market has also experienced a slight slump which is worth noting.
The new assistant “Copilot” was unveiled at the Surface Event, with functionality and integration for the Windows 11 OS and apps such as Word, Paint, and the Microsoft search engine Bing. It makes you wonder, “What ever happened to Clippy?”
Prior to this, OpenAI had itself announced a new image generator known as DALL-E 3, a system offering a wide scope of detailed user commands for far more focussed results. Bing! users will be able to access DALL-E 3 free of charge.
Flagship Surface Laptop Studio 2
With the flagship model of the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2, we see some refreshing new improvements. Equipped with 13th-Gen Intel Core mobile EVO division CPUs, they now offer up to 64 GB of RAM and 2 TB of SSD storage.
The Surface 2023 series also features powerful Nvidia, ranging from the RTX 2000 Ada Generation, GeForce RTX 4050, and RTX 4060. What’s more, the 2-in-1 hybrid features the AI-focussed Intel Movidius 3700VC VPU chip.
With the Surface Slim Pen 2, you can quickly navigate the impressive 14.4-inch touchscreen interface without a keyboard or mouse, making it perfect for touch-optimized DAW systems like Bitwig Studio.
Depending on the GPU configuration, battery life is between 16 and 19 hours. The Microsoft Laptop Studio 2 will be available from October 3, starting at $1,999.99.

So the all-in-one Studio 2+, the Surface Laptop, the touchscreen Surface Pro, and a few other peripherals like ver-ear headphones have been axed from the new Surface Series roster.
In addition, the new 2-1 hybrid Microsoft Surface Go 4 will only be available to companies rather than DTC, which is an interesting move.

One response to “The Microsoft Surface Series 2023: Quality over quantity?”
A hard no! It recently took me more 5 months to have Microsoft replace a fully warranties Surface Book that had overheating issues. They sent back to me, stating device was performing consistent with specification. 3 weeks after return, battery bulged! Again, they took another month to process replacement! N EV E R again!
