Guitar Gear Gems: MXR Zakk Wylde celebrate 20 years
Wylde Audio Effects are back celebrating 20 years with MXR
This week on Guitar Gear Gems we check out the re-release of the MXR Zakk Wylde pedal range, celebrating 20 years of working together. Then we check out the groovy ’70s-inspired Microdose Phaser and finally ponder when will the new Frank Bello Street Driver 48 get a release.
MXR Zakk Wylde
The MXR Zakk Wylde pedal collection is being re-launched and they are releasing three of his signature pedals. Each pedal now comes in a new finish and they include effects that Zakk is known to use all the time on his personal pedalboard setup.
“Each of the five pedals in the series captures all the glory and hellfire that Wylde is famous for, from his legendary recordings and performances with Ozzy Osbourne and as part of his own band Black Label Society to his current run with Pantera.” – MXR
Eventually, MXR has officially stated (see above) that there will be five effects in total. But for now they a launching this reissue with the following three pedals.
Re-released
The MXR Wylde Audio Overdrive, Chorus, and Phase will be available at launch. Each now comes with Zakk’s signature artwork including, bullseye, vertigo, and buzzsaw graphics.
Zakk’s Chorus has Low, High, Level, Rate, and Depth knobs, whereas the Phase has a single Speed knob and Overdrive has Tone, Output, and Gain controls.
MXR hasn’t officially stated the two other pedals in the range, but I’m guessing the Cry Baby Wah and Rotovibe could be reissued as Zakk has teased them both on his Instagram page.
I own the original Zakk Wylde wah and it is nice and throaty, plus has adjustable tension for the treadle.
Either way, it is good to see these back in production again.
Microdose Phaser
Next up is the new Microdose Phaser from All-Pedal and this one is a collaboration with Spaceman Effects. It is based on the Snow discontinued Explorer Deluxe.
Warp
It has controls for Warp, Depth, Res, Level, Rate, and Blend plus a staggering 16 distinct modulation shapes. This phase also offers 2, 4, and 8-stage phasing which covers a lot of ground, along with the Multiplier that has selectable speeds of 5, 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4.
The pedal comes with Tap Tempo, an EXP Input, and is also True Bypass. The expression pedal will control the Rate of the phase effect.
MSRP – USD 325

Frank Bello Street Driver 48
Anthrax bassist Frank Bello has a new Tech 21 Sansamp Street Driver 48 preamp pedal due sometime in the middle of October.
Up till now, there have been two videos teasing it, both with lots of talking, reminiscing, and pizza…?
But no actual demos of this new signature bass pedal.
Controls
The new preamp consists of controls for Drive, Low, High, and Level, plus a Dirt Switch, Filth Swith, and built-in Speaker Simulation.
It also has a Balanced low Z XLR output with a ground switch, making it perfect for live, recording and more.
For now, we are just going to have to wait to hear it in action and get an official price point and release date. So, maybe watch the two official videos whilst we bide out time
I’m guessing that it will be a solid product though so we will update you once it gets an official release.
