Korg Kronos LS – the lighter way to enjoy a workstation
We’ve seen this before. Just before Christmas an image of the Kronos LS appeared on a Japanese website. So it’s of no surprise that it’s finally made it over to the rest of world. Although 3 months seems like a long time to keep a leaked product hidden.
Kronos LS
The Korg Kronos LS is a fully equipped Kronos synthesizer workstation. It’s packed full of 9 different sound engines, a chain of 16 effects, combination patches with up to 16 sounds, a 16 track sequencer and 16 track hard disk recorder. It’s the ultimate workstation in a keyboard. What’s different about the LS is that it’s lighter – that’s really the only difference. The original 88 keyed Kronos is a monster to drag around to gigs. The Kronos LS deals with that, keeping the 88 keys but making it 6.2Kg (14 lbs) lighter.
The original 88 keyed Kronos is a monster to drag around to gigs. The Kronos LS deals with that, keeping the 88 keys but making it 6.2Kg (14 lbs) lighter. Part of the lightness comes in the redesigned keyboard. It has a lighter touch, better velocity control and strikes a balance between piano feel (like the original) and keyboard feel.
The look has also had a bit of makeover. The body is made from dark umber aluminium and you have got to love those sunburst wooden side panels.
OS Update
There’s also an update to the operating system. Kronos OS v3.1 adds easy access to Quick Layer and Quick Split functions, making it a doddle to layer up your piano and strings, or Rhodes and bass, or brass stabs and orchestral hits (my favourite).
But that’s not all….
SV-1
Korg have also announced an update to their classic looking vintage electric piano the SV-1. It’s now available in a metallic red finish. The SV-1 for me has always been an aspirational electric piano and I always thought it a real shame when the original crimson version stopped production. This brings it back into the game and back on my wish list.
The Korg Kronos LS will be available in April for £3499.99. More information available on the Korg website or for the SV-1 MR click here.
