Those lovely people at Moog have taken a strangely vindictive turn. They’ve just posted on Facebook some tiny details about a Moog drum machine. But you’re never going to get one. The DFAM (“Drummer from another mother” – I have no idea) is the project that the very lucky people with Moogfest Engineer VIP passes will be building at this year’s Moogfest.

Moog DFAM

Last year, at the Moogfest Engineer VIP Workshop they built the BFAM (“Brother from another mother” – your guess is as good as mine). It’s not been released as a product since then and, in fact, Moog state that it was only available at the workshop to the people building the thing. So we can absolutely assume that the DFAM is not “coming soon” or a leak of a forthcoming product that we can all enjoy. No no, it’s this years Workshop project and will only be available to those people who get down to the workshop.

Moogfest Engineer VIP Workshop

It’s an awesome thing for Moog to do. To run a workshop to build a completely exclusive device – that’s amazing. It’s also a stunning bit of marketing.

The workshop runs for two days over the festival weekend. Each 3-hour session will be run by Moog engineers where you’ll learn the foundations of analog synthesis and be guided through the process of making their own DFAM drum machine. There will only be 100 made. Your VIP Engineer ticket will set you back $1500. But you also get priority access to the festival, VIP events and a goodie bag.

The Moogfest runs from the 18th to the 21st May in Durham, North Carolina. Now if someone wanted one of these exclusive Moog DFAM machines but couldn’t get to the festival themselves, then I would gladly go on their behalf if you buy me the ticket and air fare. Get in touch!

The original post about the DFAM was from this Facebook post. More information about the VIP Engineer Workshop can be found here. For the Moogfest tickets details click here.
