Oxid, Loudness, RLC-79: Free Plugins of the Week
Full Bucket Music Oxid brings the classic ARP Omni-2 polysynth to your DAW in all its glory! This week’s collection of the best free plugins also features Loudness, a comprehensive loudness metering solution from Goodhertz, and RLC-79, an RMS compressor/limiter based on an iconic 1979 design.
Full Bucket Music Oxid: Analog Strings Galore
Full Bucket Music returns with yet another emulation of a classic analog polysynth and string machine. This time, the developer set out to recreate the sound of the ARP Omni-2 Polyphonic Synthesizer from 1978. Oxid offers the characteristic string and synthesizer sections of the original, along with the bass voice. Just like on the Omni-2, all sections can be used simultaneously and blended to shape the final sound. Needless to say, the ARP 3-voice chorus/phaser circuit is also available, as well as a delay that can sync to your DAW. With plenty of knobs and sliders for tweaking, Oxid takes this classic string machine to another level.
Oxid is available for macOS and Windows in VST, VST3, AU, and CLAP formats.

Goodhertz Loudness: Comprehensive Loudness Metering
In this day and age, hitting the right loudness target is crucial if you want your music to sound good on streaming platforms and various other distribution channels. To achieve that, you need a good loudness meter. Loudness by Goodhertz not only offers a comprehensive suite of loudness and stereo metering tools including LUFS, RMS, Peak, and True Peak with momentary, short-term, and long-term options. It also features a fader and fine trim controls for nailing the perfect level. Goodhertz claims that Loudness avoids the artifacts commonly associated with digital volume controls and calls it “the finest volume control available”.
Loudness is available for macOS and Windows in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
Psycho Circuitry RLC-79: Classic RMS compressor
According to the developer, this great little compressor/limiter plugin is modeled after “an iconic RMS Limiter/Compressor introduced in 1979”. Like the original, RLC-79 is a program-dependent RMS compressor that shines on percussive material, but also does a great job on many other audio sources. In addition to the input trim, threshold, ratio, and output controls, RLC-79 offers nice gain reduction and above/below threshold meters to keep your levels in check. There’s also a hard/soft knee switch and a mix knob. Its best feature, however, is probably the built-in transformer emulation with a harmonics control that allows you to push the compressor well into sound design territory.
RLC-79 is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
