Soldano ASTRO-20 – Tube Tone with Galaxies
Soldano ASTRO-20 new 20-watt head and combo announced
The Soldano ASTRO-20 is the late three-channel, four Galaxy, all-tube design 20-watt amp from legendary amp designer Mike Soldano. Available as either a Head or as a Combo.
Soldano ASTRO-20
Soldano’s ASTRO-20 combines a three-channel amp with galaxies, and Impulse Responses with MIDI control via a four-button footswitch. Allowing for simple preset organisation and integration of user IRs with the free Soldano Editor Software. The editing software is compatible with Windows 7 64-bit or higher and Apple MacOS 10.15 or higher.
The combo version comes equipped with a Celestion G12M Greenback speaker.
Tube Tone, Galaxies & IRs
It is powered by two 6V6 power tubes and four 12AX7 pre-amp tubes, giving 20-watt of power and classic Soldano tone via three channels: Clean, Overdrive 1, and Overdrive 2. The Clean/Green Galaxy channel is reminiscent of classic American combo amps, whereas the Overdrive 1 and 2 are classic Soldano gain controlled via independent Volume and Gain controls with a shared 3-band EQ.
Blue, Purple, and Red Galaxies offer a range of tones from bluesy cleans to high-gain leads, which are then assignable to each of the overdrive channels.
The IR cabinet simulation has six onboard IR slots, each assignable to different channels and galaxies. Users can then add and manage their IRs using the included software mentioned above.
The ASTRO-20 also features a Master Presence control and a classic Soldano three-position Depth switch, which can be further used to sculpt the amp tones to taste.
Verdict
Mike Soldano’s latest amp range combines classic tube technology and digital control very nicely. The demos all sound great and this 20-watt power is a perfect amount for many guitar players, so I can see them being a winner for the studio and live performance.
Pre-Order
Both the head and combo models are now available to pre-order from Thomann.
