NAMM 2016: Presonus launch scalable StudioLive AVB Mix System for live mixing
The StudioLive line of digital mixers entered the market to great acclaim several years ago, establishing Presonus as one of the affordable “players” (Behringer’s X-series then took this game even further, though). Now, the company are launching an integrated scalable system, combining their StudioLive RM-series rack mixer with their control surface CS18AI and a host of software options.
Presonus mentions four different system sizes, from 16 channels with one RM16AI up to two RM32AI rack mixers and two cascaded control surfaces for a total of 64 input channels with total recall capabilities. Software control is also possible: You can use their UC Surface mix-control on iPad, Mac or Windows, the QMix-AI monitor mix control app on iOS or Capture live recording software. The company’s own DAW Studio One also integrates with the system.
An interesting add-on comes in the shape of a firmware update to the RM-series mixers, adding a “stage box mode” that turns the rack units into I/O devices when used in conjunction with StudioLive AI-series consoles. As the components are all connected using CAT5e or 6 Ethernet cables, conventional snakes or stage boxes are not required. In other news, the Capture 2 recording software now offers remote control from the CS18AI or UC.
