Cymatics Memory: Free Shallow Water effect for your DAW
Cymatics Memory is a beautiful chorus and vibrato plugin inspired by the Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water guitar pedal. Besides its undeniable qualities on guitar, this pedal is extremely popular for its ability to transform samples. From guitars to pianos to vocals – the Shallow Water adds a dreamy character and a delightful vintage feel to anything you throw at it, as if it was sampled from an old tape recorder.
Memory recreates this effect by emulating the pedal’s BBD circuit and pseudo-random modulation source. You can adjust the Depth and Rate of the modulation and dial in some analog noise for extra dustiness. There’s also a lowpass filter tied to an envelope follower: its cutoff follows the input signal, which corresponds to the pedal’s lowpass gate and mimics the character of old tape. Add this awesome freebie to your plugin folder and your samples will never sound boring again!
Memory is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
Psycho Circuitry miniFET: FET compressor with saturation
miniFET by Psycho Circuitry is a FET compressor with three action modes: Grab, Smash, and Crush. It’s also got a built-in saturator with harmonics multiplier, as well as a switchable output transformer stage and a mix knob for parallel compression. A versatile little compressor that gets the job done!
There’s also a paid version (miniFET+, $19 intro price) that adds a bunch of features like an external sidechain with filter, additional harmonics modes, and auto-release.
miniFET is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
Variety of Sound ThrillseekerXTC mkIII
Variety of Sound has updated the popular ThrillseekerXTC plugin to mkIII. This contemporary exciter is known for its musical character that takes into account how we perceive transients, masking effects, and loudness. As such, ThrillseekerXTC is a great tool for breathing life into your audio tracks, or “bringing mojo back”, as the developer puts it.
The new version offers the same proven character, but with a couple of tweaks, including new audio transformer emulations and an inductor-based filter network. The Mojo knob now controls a dedicated output amplifier stage. Variety of Sound has also improved the overall THD performance of the plugin. Great stuff!
ThrillseekerXTC mkIII is a VST/VST3 plugin for Windows.
