This new Orange Glenn Hughes Purple O Bass is a signature model for the Deep Purple vocalist/bass player. It comes in a luxurious Deep Purple finish with Chequerboard binding around the body and the headstock.

Lightweight
It is made using lightweight, resonant African Okoumé for the body and this is paired with a bolt-on maple neck and a Purpleheart fretboard. This should all add up to a great-sounding instrument for the money. Orange, has done a great job with the O Bass design, and manged to keep the costs down as well, which is perfect.

Seymour Duncan Loaded
It comes fitted with a single Seymour Duncan SPB-1 Bass pickup, which should offer all the classic rock bass tones you would expect from a model such as this one. This pickup is controlled by a single volume and tone control, so a nice simple setup.

Signature
Apart from the striking purple finish of this signature model, it also has Glenn Hughes’ signature emblazoned across the headstock. This isn’t a bad thing, but it is there so anyone who knows Hughe’s work will see it and think you are a fan, etc

Verdict
I quite like the color myself, and so I could let the added ‘signature’ go. These Orange O Bass models have a good reputation, and this new version is a nice variation on the theme, which doesn’t stray far from the original design. This model has a bit of an upcharge for the signature, plus that Seymour Duncan pickup, etc The bass also comes in a gig bag, so you can lug it to gigs with no issues.
