Vox APC-1 – The Ultimate Retro ’60s style Travel Guitar?
New retro styled Travel Guitar coming this Summer
The Vox APC-1 is inspired by the classic 1960s Vox Apache II, but packs in a whole slew of modern features. Making this travel guitar a grab-and-go solution for musicians on the go.
Vox APC-1
At the heart of the Vox APC-1 is a Tectonic audio 180° wide-directional speaker and a passive radiator. This amplifies the guitar and provides plenty of volume, all from a set of six AA batteries which provide the power, I suspect to help keep the costs down. A no rechargeable onboard battery means a lower price point.

It uses an analog circuit amp utilising Vox’s amp technology and a rhythm machine employing VOX MINI GO, the digital modeling amp.
Travel Guitar
Vox has also included a set of built-in effects; chorus, tremolo, delay, and reverb. This travel guitar can also back you up with the onboard rhythm section that consists of 33 patterns across 11 genres. It includes R&B, funk, dance, metal, blues, and pop patterns, each with three variations that cover all the basics for most musicians. They have also included a tap tempo button and an onboard tuner.

Controls, Hardware & Connectivity
The guitar side of the APC-1 includes a pickup selector, gain, boost (on/off), tone, and volume controls. That boost will make the clean sounds distorted if you need some extra grit to your guitar tone.
Construction is based around a poplar body, paired with a maple neck and purpleheart fretboard. The hardware includes a hardtail bridge, plus two humbuckers, and it is available in orange, blue, and red finishes.
Thankfully, Vox has included plenty of connectivity so the guitar has a standard 3/4″ output, an aux input, and headphones out. Making is a versatile solution for any guitarist on the move, which is exactly what you want from a travel guitar.
Release Date
Vox has officially stated that the new APC-1 will be due out in July 2024. Which is just in time for summer, so you could grab one and take it on holiday with you. Investing in a set of rechargeable AA batteries would make this a great travel companion.
