Two new overdrives from Dunlop have been revealed at NAMM. With the Gran Torino, MXR delivers a successor to the successful custom shop Il Torino. And Way Huge is bringing back the Geisha Drive.
MXR Gran Torino Boost Overdrive
The MXR Gran Torino is the successor to the popular Il Torino from the in-house custom shop. This pedal acts as a boost and overdrive and is based on MOSFET technology. It is ideal for pedal platform amplifiers, as it enriches the natural sound of any system with the warm, organic sound of classic tube amplifiers.
The operation is wonderfully simple: gain and master are self-explanatory. There is an additional 3-band EQ for fine-tuning, which enables a considerable variety of sounds. All that remains is the small BOOST/OD switch. Boost ensures a rather clean sound with a rich sustain, while overdrive of course ensures a creamy, gentle overdrive.

Additionally, this pedal uses a Class A Low Impedance Output Driver to preserve the integrity of your sound and prevent signal loss over long effects chains.

Way Huge brings back Geisha Drive
The Geisha Drive was first made available in 2020. It was an extremely limited version of just 40 pedals. Of course, these were sold out in no time. Originally it was supposed to stay in the small limited-run edition, but now Way Huge is bringing the overdrive pedal with small changes. That first batch had a few colour variations (Blue and Red) available, so is a bit of a collector’s piece now.
What’s new? First of all, there is the housing, which is no longer “naked” but painted in white. The graphics have also been slightly changed – both the motif of the geisha itself and the lettering, which is no longer in Japanese.
The circuit itself appears untouched, which may upset collectors. However, I’m happy that pedal designer Jeorge Tripps has put it back into production for 2024.

im glad I didn’t spend the money on geisha V1 …..400$ seemed like a lot for a variant of the SD9 but this time im Gassed up and ready…
