SolidGoldFX AURRAS – Pink Floyd on Steroids?
New modern Uni-Vibe effect announced
The new SolidGoldFX AURRAS Optical Vibraphase replaces the company’s previous Athena Vibraphase, expanding upon the Uni-Vibe effect even further.
AURRAS Optical Vibraphase
SolidGoldFX is based in Montreal, Canada, and their latest AURRAS Optical Vibraphase is a modern version of the much loved Uni-Vibe effect. A pedal used to great effect by bands including Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys. This new pedal has a 100% analogue signal flow and uses a modern microprocessor. Therefore, it offers the best of both worlds and achieves some lovely Uni-Vibe-style effects.
Phase Shifting & Dual LFOs
It uses 2-stage asymmetric phase shifting, powered by individually controllable optoisolators, giving the effect clarity. Combined with the microprocessor-driven dual LFOs, this allows the AURRAS to shine, as it can get nice and ‘chewy’ when required.
The controls offer an adjustable Dry Mix, Speed, Depth, and Level plus the Offset Adjustment and Offset Mode switch.
Ramp Speed
The pedal also offers two modes: Frequency Offset adds rhythmic variations, and Phase Offset adjusts LFO asymmetry. Users can also Ramp Up and Ramp Down the vibe effect using the two footswitches. If you want even more control, the pedal also offers a tap tempo and an expression pedal input.
Premium Design
As always with SolidGoldFX, the design uses premium components throughout the circuit and has a soft-touch, relay-based true bypass. Thankfully, it runs off a standard 9V DC power supply so no need for any oddball power supplies.
Verdict
The demo video is impressive, and I am already a fan of the Uni-Vibe effect. This could be a pedal to check out if you need that classic retro Vibe effect but with more modern control options and flexibility.
