Our friends over at Gearnews.de dropped the bombshell that Propellerhead were about to make the most unlikely and yet most anticipated anouncement in their 23 year history. Well, we can now confirm that it’s true, Reason 9.5 will include support for VST plug-ins.

Reason VST? YES!

Of course we’ve all hated the fact that Reason is a closed eco-system that uses it’s own plug-in format. We’ve put up with having to Rewire it into another DAW in order to combine sound generation in Reason with the sounds and processing from our favourite instruments and plug-ins. It’s annoying, inconvenient and a drain on CPU resources. Not any more!

VST plug-ins and instruments will appear in the browser just like any other device. It gets visually wrapped in what they are calling their “VST Device”. It’s a rack unit that fits into the Reason environment and you can launch the actual GUI from there. But fitting into the Reason way of doing things requires having those virtual connections and patch points. The VST Device provides CV and Gate inputs as well as audio in/outs on the back of the rack. You can then expand the device to reveal a complete CV modulation matrix to map any Reason modulator to a parameter in the VST plug-in. I guess it’s a CV-to-MIDI function. It is, so it seems, a perfect implimentation, a complete integration of VST with Reason. It looks great and could really evelate Reason to a whole other level.

As it stands Reason 9 is a decent DAW and fabulous synth workstation and the only real criticism it receives is the lack of VST support. So it’s really exciting that they can finally take that thorn out of their side.

No we don’t – That’s actually one of the things we really love. What a lousy article.

Here Here, totally agree and it’s also why it’s such a stable product…

agreee , we lovethe Re format, what is the motive behind this. . That is what makes Reasont different I don’t care bout vst . If I want Vst I just open up reaper. there are millions of free vst available for free. With Re I can be guaranteed, no crashing. With Vst in Reaper I get regular crashing, sometimes ever time on product launch. No thank you please. I don’t want that. Leave it the way it is, it’s working perfectly. If it ain’t broke then don’t try fix it.

It’s dropping like a stone in the DAW ranks, may’be this will stop the user-base decline.
