Nothing Ear Headphones and Ear (a): An AirPods Pro alternative?
Earbuds with ANC and ChatGPT-Integration
We’ve got the latest news about Nothing! Nothing made the news today! Is Nothing better than Apple? Ok, enough with the lazy puns. But the transparent earbuds and phones from the London-based company have caused quite a stir since their release. And today, they introduced two new earbuds: Nothing Ear headphones and Nothing Ear (a).
Nothing Ear headphones and Ear (a): The end is ear
The new Nothing Ear headphones and Ear (a) in-ear headphones look a lot like their predecessors, but the slightly cheaper Ear (a) now also includes a yellow model. Both headphones offer ANC with up to 45 dB noise suppression that can be switched between three levels. They also come dynamic 11 mm drivers, Ceramic for the Ear and PMI + TPU for the Ear (a). Yeah, it sounds in my head, too.
In terms of sound, both models are certified for Hi-Res Audio and rely on AAC, SBC, and LDAC. Nothing Ear also uses LHDC 5.0. AptX is not available for either model. They both offer dual Bluetooth connections, which allows the two models to be paired to two different devices simultaneously.
Without ANC, Nothing Ear delivers up to 8.5 hours of playback, while the cheaper Nothing Ear (a) achieves 9.5 hours. With the case, which is unchanged from its predecessor, an operating time of up to 40.5 or 42.5 hours is possible.
Nothing new
In comparison, Nothing Ear headphones also offer wireless charging. Both earbuds and cases are protected against splashing water, although the Ear case promises an IP55 protection class compared to the IPX2 protection class of Ear (a). Nothing Ear also has an advanced equalizer and offers individual profiles to share. Both Ear and Ear (a) feature a bass enhancement algorithm.
If you also own a Nothing smartphone, you can make use of the earbuds’ ChatGPT integration. So, if you want to keep the most popular AI chatbot busy with questions or tasks on the go, you can do so with voice control. The ChatGPT integration is initially available with Phone (2). In a future update, Phone (1) and Phone (2a) will also be supported.
Availability and prices
Nothing Ear headphones and Ear (a) will be available from April 22, 2024. Ear costs 149 euros, Ear (a) is available for 99 euros and both models can be ordered directly from the company website.
