Guitar Gear Gems: Mesquerfresquer 12-Stage Phaser & more
This week on Guitar Gear Gems, we check out the new Mesquerfresquer 12-Stage Phaser from JFX Pedals. Then, we look at the latest, revamped and updated Crazy Tube Circuits White Whale V2 spring reverb and tremolo. Finally, we look at the new Cosmodio Instruments Pet Yeti, which combines fuzz and distortion.
Mesquerfresquer 12-Stage Phaser
JFX Pedals has a new Mesquerfresquer 12-Stage Phaser, an affordable version of the Moogerfooger pedal. It is a faithful recreation of the Moogerfooger’s complex phasing and is a compact version of this much-loved effect pedal.
Preorder
This new pedal is available for preorder and will ship later this summer. Each pedal is built in Canada, and the design is essentially the same as that of the Moogerfooger. It includes controls for Drive, Bypass, Resonance, Rate, Lo/Hi, Amount, Sweep, and 6/12 and has a CV /Expression option.
It covers many phasing duties and could be a great way to achieve classic phasing tones without spending a lot of money on an original Moog pedal.
MSRP – £228 (normally £279)
Crazy Tube Circuits White Whale V2
The updated Crazy Tube Circuits White Whale V2 offers their new take on the spring reverb and tremolo effect. As it is ‘Version 2’ of the original release, it now has some extra goodies that could be useful for many players.
Upgraded Reverb
It now features three reverbs: a short to medium two-spring reverb tank, a medium to long two-spring, and a long three-spring reverb. It also has an upgraded power amp that drives the reverb springs, adding increased headroom and a wider frequency. The company states that it has an upgraded dwell control to allow users to dial the right amount of signal that goes into the springs for a mellower or splashier reverb sound.
Crazy Tube Circuits has also tuned the analogue circuit to emulate the tube and output transformer saturation.
Harmonic Tremolo
They have also added a harmonic tremolo, taking the tremolo option count up to three. It joins the existing opto and tube bias tremolo effects of version one.
The two effect sections are now completely independent, making the pedal far more flexible than it was in V1. Connections are also available for your expression pedal or the optionally available remote switch.
Cosmodio Instruments Pet Yeti
This new Cosmodio Instruments Pet Yeti is described as going beyond basic distortion and fuzz effects. It is also designed to work equally well with guitars, synths, and drum machines, making it a great studio tool. This unique design combines a bit-crusher, multiple gain stages, and voicing options into one pedal.
Controls
As you would expect, this brightly coloured pedal has controls for Gain, Tone, and Level, along with toggle switches for the Voice, which covers symmetrical, asymmetrical, silicon, germanium, and op-amp clipping.
Then, there is a switch labelled Bite, which adds the analogue bit-crusher. Finally, there is a Strength switch to control the input gain level. Then it has a Shape control for adding pre-distortion low-end and a Clean knob for adding some unprocessed signal back into the mix. This latter control can help to maintain the low end and definition.
