Sounds and Presets: Free Samples, modwave & MiniFreak Sounds
But first we have an awesome bank of sounds for the KORG modwave that won’t break the bank!
Marc Barnes Sounds – modwave Vol.4
Marc’s latest release is his fourth bank of sounds for this incredibly powerful and popular synth. This particular volume contains 32 dual-layer custom performances and 63 custom programs that cover a wide variety of styles and genres.
There’s everything in here from synth strings and brass, pads, arps, leads, basses and motion pads. Each performance patch makes full use of the modwave’s significant modulation options. Whether you’re using the knobs or the Kaoss Pad, there’s plenty of life in these patches.
As with all previous modwave volumes, Vol.4 is easily installed using the modwave librarian app. Marc even has a video on his YouTube channel showing you how to do this. KORG modwave Vol.4 is available now for a mere £6.99 until May 14th when the price will sneak up to just £8.99. Either way, these are great value!

Orchestral Tools SINEfactory
I pride myself on trying to keep up with everything in the music tech world. I mean, that’s what I get paid for! But I have to hold my hands up and admit that until the other day, I had never heard of Orchestral Tools! I asked a few friends who compose for film and TV and they not only knew all about them, but waxed lyrical about how good they were!
Orchestral Tools are a Berlin-based company who specialises in meticulously created sample libraries covering a wide range of instruments and styles. Primarily focusing on orchestral sounds (the clue is in the name!), they also cover other acoustic and electronic instruments. Orchestral Tools packages can be quite expensive. However, there’s a much less costly way to explore their talents.
SINEfactory is a free instrument subscription service that delivers great sounds for absolutely no money at all. Subscription is quick and easy and you get a steady flow of exclusive and free instruments delivered to your mailbox. The Sine Player application allows you to both manage and play your free packs.
Included in the collection so far are string ensembles, grand pianos, percussion, acoustic guitars, church organs, flutes, ukeleles and much more. Fifteen free banks in total and the promise of more to come. In a very similar way to Spitfire Audio’s LABS project, it’s a great way to enter the world of top-level sample libraries.

Arturia Stellar Infinity for MiniFreak
When the Arturia MiniFreak launched back in October of 2022, we weren’t the only ones to rave about it. It became an instant classic and garnered plaudits from all over the synth community. And with good reason. MiniFreak delivered a beautiful blend of digital oscillators pushed through analog filters.
The simple user interface and delightful macros made it a joy to use. The Freak range had been given a serious shot in the arm. And so it was only a matter of time before Arturia gave the Minifreak a bit of a makeover, just like they did with the MiniFreak.
The MiniFreak Stellar gave us all-black keys and a cute spaceship themed design on the top panel. But it wasn’t just the outer casing that got a boost. Arturia released a bank of new Stellar-inspired sounds called Stellar Infinity to celebrate the occasion. And because the MiniFreak Stellar is identical inside to the original MiniFreak, they work on that too!
Furthermore, these sounds will work just fine on the MiniFreak V, the software version that mirrors the hardware down to the last detail. This new sound bank has a deeply galactic theme, with sounds heavily leaning towards the ambient and atmospheric.
To grab these sounds for free, just sign into your Arturia account and head over to their Sounds page (link below). You can filter by instrument, so just choose MiniFreak V and you will find Stellar Infinity. Whilst you’re there, why not grab ‘Euphoric Grooves’, ‘Deserted Lands’ and ‘Synthetic Trap’ for free too!
