The Electric Lightning is ThorpyFX’s all-new tube-driven overdrive and boost pedal. Designed in collaboration with UK guitarist Chris Buck. It is a valve overdrive circuit with a comprehensive 3-band EQ section for tone sculpting.

Plus it has a dedicated boost section.

Boost

The boost section has a footswitch of its own to bring it in as needed and has a lows control, to help users adjust the effect. The pedal can give players everything from a nice clean enhancement to thick, overdriven saturation.

Pricing and Availability

They are being built in small batches as each pedal is a fairly complex build. Price-wise they are £429 which is pretty impressive for a tube based overdrive and a dedicated boost in one unit. ThorpyFX have a reputation for very high build quality and so expect a rock solid pedal with this latest model, with tones to match.

Methstang

Dubbed the Methstang this 1966 Fender Mustang has recently been shared on social media and YouTube. Fire-damaged, flood-ravaged it was rescued by YouTuber Levon Campbell of the Not A Luthier channel.

How Damaged?

This mUstang has certainly had a tough life and many would pass it by as beyond economical repair, as it was in a pretty extreme condition.

Issues included melted pickups, a shrunken charred neck that was missing whole sections of the fretboard, a beetle-bored headstock, a rotting pickguard and very little of the original paint work!

Reborn

The guitar is now up and running and you can follow more of notaluthier and his work on his Instagram account. I like the way he kept the history of the guitar with this restortation and didn’t attempt to completely remove all the damage.

David Gilmour – The Piper’s Call

In September 2024, the now 78-year-old legendary Pink Floyd guitarist will release a new solo album called Luck and Strange. There is already a first single release for fans to dig their teeth into. It is entitled The Piper’s Call and the accompanying video shows Gilmour as well as some great studio musicians, such as Steve Gadd and Guy Pratt, during the recordings in the studio.

Simple Gilmour Tone Suggestions

To help achieve some of the classic Gilmour tones from over the years, you could try some of these pedals available at Thomann. They are just a couple of suggestions to help you get in the ballpark with his famous guitar sound, that has evolved over the decades.

If you need to dig even deeper, then I would always recommend the Gilmourish site, which goes into the finer details of every era of Gilmour’s guitar tone.
