Epiphone Limited Edition 20th Anniversary Jack Casady Bass: Hot Tuna!
The Jefferson Airplane bassist gets to celebrate 20 years with Epiphone
The new limited edition Epiphone Jack Casady 20th Anniversary bass is one fine-looking instrument that celebrates a great musician and his long relationship with the company. From Jefferson Aeroplane to Hot Tuna, Jack has been around for a while and knows good tone.
20th Anniversary
The relationship between Jack Casady and Epiphone started back in 1997 when Jack was looking for a bass that was simple but would respond well to his playing style and fulfil roles in the studio and live. It also had to be hard-wearing to withstand life on the road.
The Jack Casady signature model bass has a special limited edition flame maple veneer top and a lovely deep Wine Red finish, the maple body has single-ply white binding which I think looks really classy. A semi-hollow instrument, this bass has a classic f-hole and looks very pretty indeed. It has a mahogany 1960’s round profile, set neck and is fitted with a rosewood fingerboard with pearloid ‘trapezoid’ inlays.
A single low-impedence JCB-1 humbucking pickup provides all your tones and is controlled with a simple master Volume and master Tone control, but it also has a three-position VariGain Switch: 50, 250, 500 ohms, which gives it three additional preset tones, too.
Jefferson Airplane
After all his years in Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, Jack knows a thing or two about how to get a great bass tone and so we assume that all those years of work helped shape this instrument. I really love that one pickup design and easy to use control layout. The added bonus of the VariGain switch should give you a few useful core tones to switch between, from wher you can dial in the volume and tone to taste.
All in all, this seems a very well thought out bass on paper and one which I feel makes a lot of sense and should make for a fun playing experience as well. The Epiphone Jack Casady 20th Anniversary bass comes includes a 20th Anniversary gig bag and a certificate of authenticity.
