State Machine BitFlip: Vintage 8-Bit Sounds
State Machine BitFlip is a free chiptune sample library that runs inside the developer’s Cradleplugin. Loaded with 8-bit sounds from various retro gaming systems and vintage computers, BitFlip takes you right down memory lane.
All in all, the library includes 40 presets and 20 source sounds. While they’re of course perfect if you’re looking to recreate the gaming sounds of yesteryear, these sounds can also add a lot of flavor to EDM productions and other styles.
The Cradle plugin offers various built-in effects for additional sound shaping. You can run the sounds through four kinds of lo-fi reverb, add some delay, or smash them to pieces using the bit crusher effect. There’s also a bunch of MIDI effects, including an arpeggiator and chord generator.
State Machine BitFlip is available for free for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats. You’ll also need the free Cradle Hub application, from where you can download additional Cradle Libraries for $59 each.

This versatile chorus from SaschArt goes easy on your CPU while delivering a wide range of classic chorus effects. The developer says that eChorus uses advanced algorithms to ensure a clear and vibrant sound.
With seven adjustable parameters (Delay, Feedback, Rate, Time, Depth, Wet, and Dry), eChorus lets you dial in the perfect chorus sound for any application. Those are much more detailed fine-tuning options than many chorus effects have to offer!
eChorus is available for macOS and Windows in VST, VST3, and AU formats.
Vox Samples Monster Crab: Mastering Soft Clipper
Monster Crab by Vox Samples joins the developer’s series of cute and useful freebies. A mastering soft clipper, Monster Crab helps to transparently increase the loudness of your track before the final limiting process. Moreover, it adds harmonic distortion to inject warmth, personality, and depth to your mix.
In addition to Gain and Output knobs, Monster Crab offers a Slope control to adjust the hardness or softness of the clipping. Oversample helps to achieve a cleaner signal with less aliasing.
Monster Crab is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
