iZotope’s popular solutions for mixing, mastering, and audio restoration are renowned for delivering professional quality results fast. Moreover, the UI design of their plug-ins allows the user to access key workflow features regardless of their experience level.

With this in mind, we know exactly what to expect from Plasma. This versatile new saturation processor is capable of producing sounds ranging from subtle to more extreme results on solo instruments, vocals, channel groups, and your entire mix.

Unlike many saturation plug-ins, the key to Plasma’s design is its dynamic processing engine that performs what iZotope calls Flux Saturation. With this processing technology and a range of 24 target profiles, you can customize the saturation algorithm for a range of applications.

The interface may seem limited at first. However, Plasma provides more than enough control for a saturation processor. For starters, you can set the frequency range with the two filters on either side of the spectrum display.

More Information

To set the channel mode, there are mid and side switches with solo buttons for mid-side processing functionality. Meanwhile, on the left-hand panel, you’ll find the main Flux Saturate control, attack, and release controls as well as the overdrive slider.

The individual target profiles are selected on the top left, and you have a library of 49 presets to get you started. Once you have a basic feel of how Plasma works, you can apply it on any channel in your DAW.

The Flux Saturation will zero in on the parts of a signal that could use a boost, so you can achieve subtle effects like merging reverbs onto drums for a more natural overall sound.

All in all, Plasma looks like an easy-to-use effect with a wide range of applications, from mixing and mastering to creative sound design and music production.
