The Epiphone Prophecy Series was released four years ago with new Les Paul, SG, Flying V and Extura models. Today, this series receives a slight update, with a new aged look and a left-handed version.

Epiphone Prophecy – Aged again

I have to admit, the update is a pretty small one—and quite expensive for that. The main thing that’s new about the Epiphone Prophecy series across the board in all models is the aged finishes, both black and red. The woods (mahogany body and mahogany neck) are the same, and the Fishman Fluencer pickups are the same. Otherwise, the old and new models look confusingly similar.

Otherwise, the Flying V, Les Paul, SG, and Extura have hardly changed at all compared to the first generation. They’ve kept the GraphTech NuBone saddle, Asymmetrical Alim Taper neck with an ebony fingerboard, block/triangle block inlays, and a 628 mm scale length.

Push/Pull and Leftys

The dual push/pull assignment for volume and tone seems new. Here, you switch between single-coil/humbucker on one pot and vintage and modern sound on the other. If you look at the hardware, which has also remained the same, i.e. the Grover Locking Rotomatic tuners and LockTone Tune.o.matic bridge and stopbar, you will notice a slightly different look on closer inspection.

All of the new models seem to have been created with a new aging process, which is rather apparent on the hardware and more subtle on the color finish. But what’s really great is that there are now left-handed versions of the Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul, SG, and Flying V!

What do the new models in the series cost?

There are two new colors for all four models: Aged Jet Black Metallic and Aged Bengal Tiger Burst, plus, as mentioned, left-handed models. But I can’t help but look at the new prices, just for the Aged look, in a series that is already priced in the upper Epiphone range and be a bit bewildered… You can get the three Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul models from Thomann*, including a gig bag.

The SG models with Aged Jet Black Metallic, Aged Jet Black Metallic Lefty, and Aged Bengal Tiger Burst are also available at Thomann*. The same applies to the three flying Vs: the Flying V is also available at Thomann* in these three versions.

Last but not least, there are the new Extura models from Epiphone Prophecy. Unfortunately, Gibson has not provided a left-handed version here. However, the two colors, Aged Jet Black Metallic and Aged Bengal Tiger Burst, are also available for this version at Thomann*. In addition, the Epiphone website has an exclusive Aged White Tiger Burst version of all four models. Visually, this is definitely the highlight of this mini-update for me.
