Blackstar has announced new signature gear for Jared James Nichols, including the JJN 50 amp head and JJN 212 VOC cabinet. Plus, a digital plugin version of the guitarist’s rig.
Blackstar JJN 50: A Versatile Tube Amp
The Blackstar JJN 50 is a new, more powerful signature tube amplifier boasting 50 watts of output driven by dual EL34 tubes. It delivers a distinctive vocal midrange with rich harmonics and dynamic response. The development process behind this amp was extensive, as showcased in the accompanying video.
Blues Power
This latest signature model seems to blend various Blackstar amplifiers, incorporating the design elements and aesthetic of the manufacturer’s newer models.
It features a new Blues Power Boost circuit, a built-in reverb effect, and the Blackstar load box with three selectable cabinet simulations. The CabRig software provides easy customization of these settings.
Lightweight
Weighing 36% less than a traditional 50-watt tube amp, the JJN 50 is a more portable and comfortable option for musicians. It will undoubtedly offer more headroom than Nichol’s previous signature amp, rated at 20 watts.
The matching JJN 212 VOC is a 2×12 lightweight speaker cabinet with a Celestion G12 T-75 and a Celestion Zephyr speaker. At not even 16 kg, the cab is one of the lightest on the market.

Virtual Amp
There is also a free trial, so you can try it out before you buy. It is perfect for use in the studio or at home when you cannot crank a 50-watt tube head but want to capture that tone in your DAW setup.
