Quilter Labs Bass Block V803: Class D Bass Powerhouse
The Quilter Labs Bass Block V803 bass head is an 800-watt Class D amp with three distinct voice modes and a lightweight, compact design.
Bass Block V803
This new Bass Block V803 amp head is Quilter’s latest bass model. It packs a lot of power into a compact and versatile amp head. The circuit design is Class D, with 800 watts of power available and three amp voice modes.
Voice Modes
The three amp Voice Modes, accessible via the three-way toggle switch, each offer a distinct character, making this amp head a valuable tool for stage and studio.
- MODERN: A tight, solid-state output with a “bottomless” limiter, similar to Quilter’s previous 800 and 802 models.
- WARM: A tube-like output impedance with the same reliable limiter, offering what Quilter describes as a lush, vintage sound.
- Q-TUBE: Described as having a classic tube clipping and a tube-type output impedance for a rich, dynamic overdrive.
I like the nice, simple design layout, and having these three modes should make the amp a versatile solution for many bassists.
Controls
This single-channel amp controls Gain, Treble, Midrange, Mid Frequency, Bass, and Master, making it relatively simple. This could be its strength. It allows players to get on with playing without dealing with option paralysis.
The voice switch allows users to adjust the sound according to the musical context. The input switch for Passive/Active/Mute will enable them to adapt to electric bass pickups and changing instruments.
In addition, the V803 is equipped with a serial effect loop to integrate external effects conveniently. The inputs and outputs include a headphone output, an XLR line out with Cab Sim and cab outputs in jack, and Speakon outputs. It also has a ground lift switch, which allows it to play nicely in all situations.
Compact
This modern compact design measures 216 x 197 x 79 mm and weighs only 1.8 kg, making it perfect for any musician on the move.
