It might not be the news that AlphaTheta fans have been waiting for (that would be the announcement of the long-awaited XDJ-AZ) but this missive from the company formerly known as Pioneer DJ is pretty cool nonetheless. Yes, it’s the new four-channel all-in-one DJ controller, the AlphaTheta DDJ-GRV6, and it works with both rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro.

Groove Circuit

The big selling point of AlphaTheta DDJ-GRV6 is Groove Circuit, which comes as part of the controller’s onboard rekordbox software. Sort of like stems but laser-focused on drums, Groove Circuit lets you capture, remix, and replace drum tracks, even on songs that are playing live.

Use the buttons arranged across the top of the controller to swap out the drums with loops – AlphaTheta DDJ-GRV6 includes a free download of 40 drum loops – create fills and transitions, and activate drum release FX. You can also capture drum tracks to store and use with later songs.

Remix Stems

Don’t worry if you prefer to use Serato DJ Pro. DDJ-GRV6 includes an overlay sheet to change the Groove Circuit buttons into Stems FX triggers. Split tracks into stems – drums, bass, vocal, or melody – and apply effects such as Roll, Trans, Echo Out, and Delay.

Club Layout

AlphaTheta has designed the DDJ-GRV6 to resemble its flagship gear, including the CDJ-3000 multi player. It features large jog wheels, eight performance pads positioned above the jogs, and Beat FX from the DJM-A9 in the mixer section.

Smart Rotary Selector

AlphaTheta’s DDJ-GRV6 also sports a new Smart Rotary Selector, a tilting knob much like the one on Native Instruments Maschine Plus. When paired with rekordbox, you can use the up/down and left/right tilting as well as the conventional rotation and push operations to navigate through your music collection.

There’s also a Discover button to directly access the Track Suggestion feature, should you need help choosing your next song.

Compatibility and Connectivity

DDJ-GRV6 works with rekordbox for Mac/Windows and iOS/Android, although you lose two channels when working with a mobile device. It’s also compatible with Serato DJ Pro.

The DJ controller features a built-in sound card, USB-C for power and data, a combined microphone/quarter-inch TRS input jack, master out (quarter inch and RCA), RCA booth out, and two headphone jacks, one quarter-inch, one 3.5mm.

Price and Availability

AlphaTheta DDJ-GRV6 is available now for a suggested retail price of €849 including VAT or $829 excluding tax.
