Allen & Heath Xone:92 MK2
This is a rough week to be a poor DJ. First AlphaTheta hits us with three new releases and now Allen & Heath is here to make us wish we hadn’t splurged on dinner and drinks at Applebees last night with Xone:92 MK2, an update on the stone-cold classic DJ mixer.
Allen & Heath Xone:92 MK2: Get in the Xone
You know it, you love it. The original Xone:92 is on everybody’s DJ rider for a reason: it sounds great, it’s fun to play on and it’s built like the proverbial tank. The new Allen & Heath Xone:92 MKII follows on in the same vein, building on improvements made for the Xone:92 Limited Edition all while adhering to the if it ain’t broke, don’t mess with it axiom.
In case you’re new to this planet, the Xone:92 is a six-channel (four phono/line and two microphone) DJ mixer famous for its all-analog signal path.
Allen & Heath Xone:92 MK2: Filter Improvements
Chief among the Allen & Heath Xone:92 MK2’s improvements are the filters. The new filters have an optimized control curve “while retaining the 92’s fabled filter sound,” says Allen & Heath, with low-pass to high-pass, band-pass, notch filter, and all-pass modes plus enhanced resonance. In addition, they now sport silent filter switching for seamless transitions.
Allen & Heath Xone:92 MK2: Crossfader and Colorway
Also new to the MK2 is the updated crossfader, which Allen & Heath changed to a mini innoFADER Pro and tuned to match the curve of the original 92 fader.
Allen & Heath has done a little work on the look of the mixer too, revamping the much-loved Storm Grey colorway with enhanced UV printing for low-light legibility. Love that glow. Other cosmetic enhancements include a refocused legend for extra visibility of key controls plus recessed Filter and XFade assign switches.
The company has even tweaked the RIAA curve in the phono preamp, tailoring it especially for house and techno.
Other sweeteners include a new three-way, global channel fader curve switch and improved channel 1-4 input level and source-matching.
Allen & Heath Xone:92 MK2: Price and Availability
Allen & Heath Xone:92 MKII is available now from Thomann* for $1,799 / £1,377 / €1,659. The Xone:92 Limited Edition is still available as well.
