Rackmount Audio Interface with Auteur Preamps
Black Lion Audio has introduced the Revolution 14×16 USB-C audio interface. Building on the smaller Revolution 2×2 and 6×6, the 14×6 is the first rackmount interface of the series with a channel count high enough to support larger setups. The Revolution 14×16 is now ready for pre-order.

Black Lion Audio Revolution 14×16 Audio Interface
[10 October 2024] Black Lion Audio first launched the Revolution series back in 2021 with the 2×2, a high-quality stereo interface. Since then, the manufacturer has expanded the series by adding the 6×6 and then the EXP ADAT expansion. With the new Revolution 14×16, the line-up now also includes a rackmount USB-C audio interface designed for applications that demand a higher channel count.
The Revolution 14×16 offers two mic/line/instrument inputs with Auteur preamps. At lower gain settings, these behave like typical American preamps with a fast attack, Black Lion Audio says. Turn up the gain a bit higher, and the Cinemag transformers begin to introduce the warmth and coloration associated with classic British preamps. Conveniently, inputs 1 and 2 are mirrored on the back with the jacks on the front taking precedence, so you can wire them up permanently in your studio and still plug something into the front of the interface if needed.
On the back, you’ll find two additional mic/line/instrument inputs with Revolution preamps. For added flexibility, inputs 1-4 are equipped with channel inserts, which can be conveniently activated from the front panel for easy A/B comparisons. Alternatively, you can use the return jacks as four additional analog line inputs.
On the output side, the Black Lion Audio Revolution 14×16 offers two pairs of analog line outs. There’s also digital S/PDIF I/O, as well as word clock and ADAT I/O for adding an external ADAT expansion such as the EXP. Like the other interfaces of the Revolution series, the 14×16 features Black Lion Audio’s patented Macro-MMC clock for precise digital synchronization.
With additional features like three (!) independently controllable headphone outputs, flexible monitor mixing and routing, and an 8-stage LED level meter that can be assigned to the inputs, outputs, and even the insert returns, the Black Lion Audio Revolution 14×16 offers plenty of versatility for small studios. It also comes with an extensive software package that includes PreSonus Studio One+, Sonarworks SoundID for headphone calibration, Audified GK Amplification 3 LE, and more. If you’ve outgrown your 2×2 or 2×4 desktop interface, this could be a great fit.

where to purchase ?
Black Lion Audio was originally just a group of amateurs who only swapped out op-amps and capacitors, and it seems they had little knowledge of digital circuitry, such as grounding and clock handling. Both the measurements and the sound were extremely poor. I wonder how their new product will be. Judging by the circuit board, I still think it’s pretty bad…
