In a completely unforeseen turn of events, the Revox B77 MKIII stereo tape machine has returned to production to continue its recording legacy.
Now based in Villingen, Germany, Revox KLANGWERK has a prestigious history as a tape machine manufacturer. The company began as a subdivision of the famous Studer brand, with ReVox becoming synonymous with more affordable tape machines for home and project studios.
Revox B77 MKIII
Along with the B77 MKIII, Revox has also introduced its new Analog Master Tapes Collection. In collaboration with Horch House, Revox has created a system for reproducing master tapes, so fanatical listeners can enjoy the quality of analogue tape from their homes.
The B77 MKIII is a 2-track tape recorder built to the highest quality sustainable production standards. For those who enjoy the world of music that was originally recorded to tape, the idea behind this development from Revox is to allow you to come full circle from the studio to your listening lounge.
Instead of using traditional electrolytic capacitors the B77 MKIII uses high-quality film capacitors in its design. In addition, the tape speed can be switched from 7 1/2 to 15 IPS (19 or 38 cm per second) for different magnetization characteristics.
Overall, even though the B77 MKIII is a 2-track machine at the high end of the market, the reappearance of magnetic tape machines is an exciting novelty. Does this mean that we can look forward to a multitrack resurgence? We sure hope so.

I hope Berginher’s can-do attitude will make it happen again.
Note there’s zero tech specs about wow and flutter, frequency response etc. but they talk about the quality of the tape “pickups and cartridges” (what’s this got to do with tape?!) but you do get a signed certificate. How nice. 😜
Nothing but a vanity project for audiophiles with more money than sense. I love the sound and feel of tape and still have my 70s Revox A77 and an ex BBC refurbished PR99 mkIII, yes you still can get tape t honestly not used them in quite a while. Might fire one up at the weekend though for old times sake…
