Leave it to Behringer to come up with small, convenient, affordable pieces of studio gear like the Monitor1. Quite possibly the simplest device of its kind, all it offers to those wishing to control a pair of studio monitors from their desk is a mono switch, a big ol’ volume knob, and a mute switch. Need anything else? You may, and fairly so, but be prepared to pay quite a bit more than the 63 EUR / 55 GBP / 70 USD the Music Group is asking for.
The Monitor1 is equipped with a pair of TRS & stereo inputs, and another pair of TRS & stereo outputs, which is enough connectivity for a set-up consisting of a small interface and a pair of studio monitors. It has a simple, rugged metal build with anti-slip legs made of rubber, and it’s sold only in Black.
The Behringer Monitor1 will be available mid-August and it’s already up for pre-order at Thomann and other music stores. Those interested in a monitor controller and looking after something similarly simple can check out the Palmer Monicon or Mackie Big Knob, both in the same affordable category as Behringer’s upcoming product. For a few Euros more, the Mackie Big Knob lets you add a second pair of monitors and secondary audio source, switching between them on the fly.
Still, Behringer is aiming for the most affordable spot in the monitor controller game, and by the looks of it, it will deliver. More information can be had at Behringer’s product page.
