Software developer BOOM Library offers STEREOLAB, a handy stereo plug-in that is currently available for free. And that’s for a total of 20,000 licences or until 24 October 2024 – so if you’re interested, you’d better hurry! The tool makes it possible to transform mono signals into a full stereo image or, conversely, wide stereo fields into a precise mono mix. It combines several modules for processing panning, mid-side gain and delay to create interaural time differences. This allows you to change the stereo image in a targeted way, giving you fine control over the overall sound. A really interesting effect – not only for sound designers and available as freeware for a short time!

STEREOLAB: A Stereo Plug-in for Precise Panning and Width – Now Free!

The STEREOLAB plugin from BOOM Library offers four central modules that can be used for various stereo applications. The ‘Widen’ module expands the stereo field without affecting the centre signal, while the ‘Mid/Side’ module allows more precise control over the mid and side frequencies of a mix. The Stereo module allows you to optimise panning and balance, while the Width module adjusts the width of a signal, giving you precise control over low frequencies.

The built-in vectorscope gives you visual feedback on the stereo balance, making it easy to fine-tune. And on top of that: It’s great to be able to freely swap the order of all the modules.

The plug-in is particularly useful for various audio tracks such as drums, synthesizers, vocals or for sound designers. Whether it’s expanding the sound of drums in space, widening synth layers or precisely positioning vocals, STEREOLAB offers a wide range of options for shaping the stereo image of a track. It can also be used for ambient recordings to create a sense of depth and space, or to transform mono recordings into a wide stereo image. Sounds very interesting!
