Plugin developer Imaginando has released TV3, a free TB-303 emulation in plugin format that can be downloaded as freeware until 1 December 2024. The bass line software synthesizer is based on the legendary Roland TB-303 and extends the classic concept with its own cool design elements and workflow improvements. Thank you, Imaginando!
Freeware until December: TV3 plug-in with legendary acid sound
The sound source of the currently free TV3 plug-in is based on two oscillators (main and sub) with sawtooth or square waveforms, which are sent through a resonant 24dB/octave low-pass filter. You can control both cutoff and resonance to reproduce the original acid sound. And you can play with it to the max.
The sound shaping is completed by a simple envelope generator and four unique and essential distortion modes for the 303 sound: saturation, saturated wavefolding, fuzz and nock. There’s also a built-in high-pass filter for even more creative possibilities. If you prefer to keep things simple, the TV3 offers a stripped-down GUI. If you want to dig deeper, you can access the advanced panel and go into more detail.
Iconic TB-303 Sounds for Everyone
A highlight is, of course, the pattern generator, which makes creating basslines a breeze compared to the real TB-303. Random patterns can be created with a single click, and then customised. Users can set the complexity, length, scale (from 21 possible scales) and key of the sequences, and export the generated patterns as MIDI files. Wow!
The generated MIDI files can be dragged and dropped into your DAW or simply dragged onto the desktop – perfect for creating your own collection of bass lines. What’s more, you can save any patches you create, so they’re always at your fingertips. A set of classic acid bass line presets is included to get you started.

Imaginando TV3 is available for Windows and MacOS in VST, VST3 and AU formats and can be downloaded free of charge until 1 December 2024. After the free period, the plug-in will be available for $19.
