Hunter Engel has been running his YouTube channel on everything guitar for over 14 years. It now has over 200,000 subscribers! Time for a refresh of his signature! The Harley Benton Agufish comes in standard single-cut and baritone models. Visually and in terms of the woods, we are in the premium segment of the Harley Benton world.

Harley Benton Agufish: Single-Cut in Purple Sandblasted

Haven’t we been here before? Four and a half years ago (when Agufish was at 80,000 subscribers), Harley Benton and Hunter Engel already presented the first version of the Harley Benton Agufish Signature. Even then, by HB’s standards, it was expensive, with the Single-Cut being limited to 350 copies. The new model is different.

The Agufish Custom is back in beautiful purple sandblasted. The wood grain is much more visible in comparison, which adds visual movement. Nyatoh wood is used for the body, AAA carved ash for the top, roasted Canadian maple for the neck (smooth U profile), and Macassar ebony for the fingerboard (radius: 12.01″).

Hardware, Pickups, and a Baritone Model

Graph Tech TUSQ XL nut (1.69″ width), 22 extra jumbo stainless-steel frets, glow side dot marks, Jinho HB JN-03L locking tuners, and a WSC Tune-O-Matic bridge – the hardware is a delight! The pickups used here are Roswell Seraphim set Custom Wound Alnico V models. There are separate volume and tone controls for both (including push/pull functionality for coil splitting) and the usual three-way switch.

This release also includes a baritone model. In terms of wood, hardware, and pickups, it is equal to the standard single-cut model. But it comes with a longer scale length: 712 mm (28″) compared to 635 mm (25″) for the standard model. Consequently, this Harley Benton Agufish model also comes with a different set of strings.

Baritone models are not exactly common in the HB world. But then again, Baritone guitars are somewhat of a niche as well. It will be interesting to see how these guitars, which are not exactly cheap for Harley Benton, sell. In any case, I think the foray into spheres beyond the five-hundred-euro mark is an exciting attempt. Who knows, maybe HB will even dare to make four-digit premium models?

How much do the new Agufish Customs from Harley Benton cost?

For HB, this Signature is on the expensive side. The Harley Benton Agusfish Custom PB at Thomann* costs 599 euros. The baritone model is also available at this price: 599 euros at Thomann*.
