Black Magick Reverb TB: Tyler Bryant tweaks Supro’s favourite
Now 35 watts, up from 25 watts
Tyler Bryant has a new favourite amp: the Supro Black Magick Reverb TB. It’s an amp to rock with and an absolute workhorse!
Supro Black Magick Reverb TB
Tyler Bryant has always loved the original Supro Black Magick and made it his own with some new modifications: more bass, headroom, and power.
Class A
The two-channel Supro Black Magick Reverb TB uses a Class-A amplifier with a whopping 35 watts (up from the 25 watts of the standard Black Magick) based on a pair of Sovtek 5881 tubes with four 12AX7 and 12AT7 preamp tubes. These tubes are known for their warm, harmonious sound, which contributes to excellent dynamics.
It also features a “bright cap” modification on channel one for added sparkle when blended with the original Black Magick preamp on channel two.
Custom Transformer
It also comes with a custom-made Supro transformer and offers three output options between 4 ohms (two), 8 ohms (two), and 16 ohms (one).
This makes it a versatile workhorse and compatible with most extension cabinets. Making it great for players who need more than a single 12″ speaker.
Spring Reverb & Tremolo
The Supro Black Magick TB has a tube-driven 3-spring reverb that provides room-filling sound with that Supro reverb voice, which is pretty forward and has its own thing going on.
In addition, the amplifier has an updated, tube-based LFO system that enables a bias-modulated tremolo. With twice the speed range compared to the original Black Magick, the amp enriches your guitar tone with sumptuous modulation.
Custom BD12 speaker
Supro developed a custom Celestion-made 12-inch high-performance BD12 speaker. This speaker is known for its sound quality and ability to reproduce the signature sound of Jimmy Page’s original Supro. With an oversized ceramic magnet, a first-class suspension, and a special British diaphragm, the BD12 is designed to handle the higher output power of this tweaked amp.
Verdict
The demo video is quite impressive, and the extra wattage should help with clean headroom, which can be helpful for many guitarists. The price is above the recent Supro Montauk. However, this is a far more powerful amp, and with that onboard tremolo and reverb.
If you like that Supro amp tone, this could be a great model to check.
