Mary Ford

Born Iris Colleen Summers on July 7, 1924, Mary Ford was a trailblazing musician and actress who captivated audiences in the early 1950s. Her rich, smooth vocals and innovative recording techniques set her apart.

Partnering with legendary guitarist Les Paul, the duo achieved remarkable success. Between 1950 and 1954, their groundbreaking harmonies and seamless blending of country, jazz, and pop influences produced 16 top-ten hits.

’50s Goldtop

Now, Gibson pays tribute to this influential artist with the Mary Ford Les Paul Standard. Inspired by Mary’s one-of-a-kind instrument, this special edition guitar features a stunning Goldtop finish with a Vintage Cherry back, an ES-295-style floral pickguard and armrest, and a set of their Burstbucker pickups.

Construction

This model’s construction is pretty standard for a Les Paul. It comprises a mahogany back with a maple cap, a mahogany neck, and an Indian rosewood fretboard. The neck has a SlimTaper profile, 22 medium jumbo frets, trapezoid acrylic inlays, and a Graphtech nut.

The Burstbucker pickups include a Burstbucker 3 bridge pickup and the Burstbucker 2 in the neck position. These are wired as standard with two volumes, two tones, and a three-way pickup sector switch.

It ships with a Gibson hardshell case and accessory kit.

Mary Ford Collection

The rest of the Gibson Mary Ford Collection includes a T-shirt, a pennant, and a bandana, all of which feature Ford’s name in some way and are aimed at collectors.

If you want a Les Paul Standard with a ’50s aesthetic but want something unique, this one could be for you. The price is relatively reasonable for a USA Gibson, so it isn’t crazy money to buy this model.
