Witch Pig Angel Dust: Pitch Shifting Dual Delay
Angel Dust by Witch Pig is a stereo delay with a unique twist that makes it ideal for creative sound design. Each side has a separate pitch control, which allows you to transpose the repeats in the left and right channels independently by ±1 octave. The results range from sparkly, bell-like textures and cascading arpeggios to dark and menacing timbres. Using the Balance and Centre knobs, you can emphasize one side over the other, which is especially interesting when automated.
The rest of the controls on the right hand side are pretty straightforward. Angel Dust has knobs for the delay time and feedback, as well as an LFO for modulating the repeats, which offers another opportunity to get creative.
Angel Dust is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
Variety of Sound TesslaSE MKIII: Analog-Style Coloration
One issue with free plugins is that many developers don’t really maintain and update them on a regular basis. Variety of Sound is a notable exception. TesslaSE MKIII is the latest version of the popular free “Analog Style Signal Enhancer” and the follow-up to the previous version released in 2021.
TesslaSE is a free coloration effect designed to breathe analog life into your digital recordings and mixes. It’s not so much about full-on saturation, but a subtle dose of depth and dimension.
According to Variety of Sound, the new MKIII version comes with several improvements. The knob previously labeled “Air” now provides more detailed control over the transformer sound, rather than just the high end. The depth control has been replaced with a new knob that lets you adjust the curve for saturation or limiting. And the plugin’s anti-aliasing has also been further improved.
TesslaSE MKIII is a VST and VST3 plugin for Windows.
Reflex Acoustics Reflex Limiter: Free Lightweight Limiter Plugin
According to Reflex Acoustics, Reflex Limiter is “a free, lightweight limiter you can use anywhere”. It uses a fast look-ahead compressor with Time and Knee controls, followed by a clipper. The developer says that this design reduces the workload on the clipper, resulting in a cleaner sound. You can activate and deactivate the compressor and clipper separately.
Moreover, Reflex Limiter offers an optional matched LUFS output, which is great for A/B testing. It also has 2x oversampling.
Reflex Limiter is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
