DOD Rocks 50 Years with Overdrive Preamp LTD
50th Anniversary Edition
The new DOD Overdrive Preamp LTD Overdrive Preamp LTD celebrates 50 years of the American pedal company.
DOD Overdrive Preamp LTD
The DOD Overdrive Preamp LTD celebrates half a century in the pedal-making business. This U.S.-made masterpiece is a collector’s dream, limited to just 1,974 units – a nod to DOD’s founding year. The original ODP250 catapulted DOD to “America’s Pedal” status. The brand has always been a big player; this year, it has reached 50 years in the business.
1974-2024 Gold Anniversary
Each numbered pedal boasts a certificate of authenticity, a laser-engraved commemorative emblem, and a collection of guitar picks and stickers. The ODP250 – 50th Anniversary Edition faithfully replicates the original control layout with Gain and Level controls.
This design still has the classic “Silicon” mode, which the pedal is famous for, but adds two extra modes accessible via a three-way mini toggle switch. It has a “Ge/ASYM” mode using a germanium diode for asymmetric harmonic distortion, which gives a more vintage drive tone.
Finally, there is the “Lift” mode, which removes diode clipping, letting the classic LM741 chip sing with increased gain. This one is great for a clean boost or adding a touch more grit to an already overdriven amp.
The pedal is a True Bypass design with an LED indicator, so it is a simple layout.
Verdict
This American-made preamp/overdrive is for collectors and anyone who needs that classic DOD tone. I doubt that from their humble Salt Lake City beginnings in 1974, John Johnson and David O. DiFrancesco (DOD) could never have predicted their lasting impact on the world of pedals.
The standard edition is still available in the now familiar yellow housing.
This special edition has a neat custom paint job that returns to the original models, offering pedal geeks and collectors a little bit of everything.
