The GFI System Solis Ventus combines delay and reverb effects, using two separate DSP engines to give users the ultimate control over both effects. It is perfect for live and studio use as it has many control options.
Solis Ventus
Solis Ventus, Latin for “Sun and Wind,” is a cutting-edge dual-engine Delay and Reverb pedal that surpasses its predecessor, the Specular Tempus. Powered by a 32-bit ARM processor, it allows you to run two algorithms simultaneously, offering unparalleled flexibility.
Dual Engine
Those independent DSP engines allow for vast control over the two effects. Users can combine 15 Delay and 9 Reverb algorithms in series, parallel, ping-pong, stereo, or dual mono configurations. Two touch sliders control Mix, Crossover, and Dynamics Engine, offering unprecedented effect parameter shaping.
There are two engines, and users can also control the dynamics of the effects with in-depth controls for which part of their signal is affected. The Dynamics Engine adds a new dimension to the sound, expanding beyond traditional ducking and gating.
These independent dynamics processing engines, positioned after each DSP, allow you to apply dynamic ducking or gating to any delay or reverb algorithm. This dual-engine configuration offers unparalleled flexibility, enabling you to create intricate and expressive textures.
A switchable crossover filter divides your input signal into two frequency bands, routing each to a separate DSP. This innovative feature allows you to process distinct frequency ranges with different delay and reverb algorithms. You can even modulate the crossover frequency via MIDI for dynamic and ethereal effects.
Looper
You can layer your sounds with a 40-second stereo looper and experiment with flexible routing, and it has two expression pedal options (with CV compatibility). This gives users plenty of valuable options to play with and makes this effect worth checking out if you like lots of control over your reverb and delay effects.
The extent of the control also covers tap tempo and MIDI control, and it comes with 96 presets. It builds upon the legacy of the Specular Tempus, incorporating its entire algorithm library, refined and expanded, alongside a host of exciting new effects.
Stompbox Mode
Solis Ventus offers unparalleled flexibility with its Stompbox Mode. Dedicate one footswitch to control each engine, transforming it into a streamlined two-stompbox setup for quick and easy sound shaping.
Verdict
It features both Instrument and Line Levels, so it will work equally well with guitars and synths, potentially making it a great studio tool. It comes with a high-contrast OLED display, so I’m hoping it will also be easy to navigate, as many options are available.
The video demos are pretty impressive, and the switchable crossover filter could be handy for adding dynamic content to only part of your signal. If you like to tinker with control parameters and enjoy luscious soundscapes, this is one to check out.
