Free Plugins of the Week
PSP Audioware PSP Chamber: Free Chamber Reverb for your DAW
PSP Audioware recently released PSP EasyVerb – a ten-algorithm reverb plugin with everything from physical spaces to plate and spring reverbs. To give you a taste, the developer made one of the algorithms available for free in PSP Chamber: a free chamber reverb inspired by classic hardware units.
Like any chamber reverb, PSP Chamber is designed to produce rapidly developing, dense reverberation with a smooth decay. It’s got all the controls you’d expect: In addition to Decay, Damp, and Pre-Delaycontrols, you’ll find a 4-band EQ with high and low shelves and two semi-parametric mid bands for shaping the reverb tail. There’s also a Width knob for controlling the stereo width, as well as the all-important Mix knob.
If you like what you’re hearing, PSP EasyVerb with nine more algorithms is still available at the low introductory price of $49 until December 31, 2024.
PSP Chamber is available for macOS and Windows in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
IVH-Audio e::Pi Lite: Legendary Fuzz Tones
Like PSP Chamber, e::Pi Lite by IVH Audio gives you a free taste of a new paid plugin. And it doesn’t take a scientist to figure out which legendary pedal this freebie is modeled after: the famous Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi fuzz.
As such, the controls are simple. In addition to the Volume, Tone, and Sustain knobs of the virtual pedal, you get global Input, Doubling, Mix, and Output controls in the plugin shell. The developers claim they achieved a “new level of analog modeling” by combining traditional modeling technology with machine learning and neural networks. As this process doesn’t require capturing the entire circuit on the component level, it’s allegedly much more CPU-efficient than a traditionally modeled plugin.
If you like e::Pi Lite, you might consider upgrading to the full version, which is available for just $9 until December 25, 2024. The paid version not only comes with four additional variants of the Big Muff Pi (Raging Bull, Square, Soviet Green, White Army), but also lets you tweak the emulation by switching between two circuit conditions and two mod modes.
e::Pi Lite is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
Just in case you prefer the real thing, it’s available here*.
Wire Grind Rasp: Gritty, Raspy, Noisy Distortion
Wire Grind says that Rasp is “not a conventional distortion effect”. But it does many of the same things: Rasp makes your audio sound “gritty, noisy, or raspy” and can even produce “over-the-top fuzz effects”. You can throw it on vocals, drums, or any instrument, or use it creatively and apply automation to create unique transitions.
You can adjust the amount of effect and dial in the frequency range for processing. Rasp also has oversampling for suppressing aliasing.
Rasp is a VST3 plugin for Windows.
