Synergy R1 by Audified: a DAW-controlled hardware reverb and saturation unit
Czech studio gear and plug-in developer Audified has created a new hardware reverb/saturator and software controller combination – the Synergy R1. Made for the 500-series modular rack frame format (as popularized by API), the Synergy R1 features seven types of reverb algorithms, paired with three analogue saturation modes. The functionality is controlled from your computer over USB with a bundled plug-in (or standalone application) that lets you command parameters, recall sessions, store presets, and automate the device. Effectively, it’s a hardware unit you can use as easily as any of your plug-ins.
Designed and built in the Czech Republic, the Synergy R1 is part digital reverb, part analog saturator. The digital reverb part houses 24-bit converters and a 32-bit DSP, along with true bypass. Users can control four panel-accessible parameters – decay, pre-delay, color, and type. The analog saturator has three switchable circuits – germanium transistors, OpAmp, and J-Fet, alongside a gain control. Both sections have wet/dry MIX knobs so you can blend signals at will.
According to Audified, each and every one of Synergy R1’s functions can be remote-controlled via the included host application or plug-in. The latter can be used from within all major DAW host applications on Mac and PC (with AAX, AU, VST2, and VST3 support). The hardware parameters can be fully automated and are saved within projects. The control plug-in supports multi-instance usage, so several plug-ins could be assigned to one hardware unit.
The Synergy R1 will start shipping in September, with a projected price of $1399 USD. No word on European or British prices right now. The unit will be presented at Summer NAMM, between July 13-15, in Nashville, Tennessee. For more information, feel free to visit the manufacturer’s website.
