With the Shure MV7i, the popular USB-C mic design has been updated to give you an XLR-combo input for an additional mic or instrument.
The MV7 is already one of the most popular microphones for content creation and home recording, so this new model gives users the flexibility to add another mic for an in-studio guest on your stream or record electric and bass guitars.
Shure MV7i
This week at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Shure announced the MV7i, another variation of the MV7 that was originally inspired by the industry standard SM7B broadcast mic. The design is similar to the MV7+, as the LED touch panel with its level meter is a common feature.
With the new XLR-combo input, you get 60 dB of gain, and phantom power for condenser mics or DI boxes. As you connect your mic or instrument cable, the intuitive DSP system detects and applies the perfect processing for your application.
Meanwhile, with its USB-C output, the MV7i is compatible with a wide range of devices, including Mac, Windows, and mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad. With the accompanying MOTIV Mix software app, you can record or make adjustments to your gain and processing settings.
With Auto Level mode and SmartGate, you can ensure that your gain structure is optimized for streaming or recording. What’s more, there are three different configurations for the MV7i’s output, including mixdown, multitrack, and stereo.
This allows you to sum both inputs to a single mono output, use two separate mono outputs for added flexibility, or a stereo output. As you can imagine, the MV7i is also compatible with Shure’s MOTIV Audio and MOTIV Video mobile apps, so you can record directly to any supported device.
Overall, the MV7i is a logical evolution that allows creators to get by without a mixer, which is a very useful prospect. The XLR input will certainly come in handy when an unexpected guest shows up on your stream.
