Softube Dimensions: Unknown Pleasures?
A new Reverb plugin with 6 algorithms for your DAW.
With Softube Dimensions, the renowned plugin developer adds a high-quality reverb to its recent series of Console 1-ready plugins.
Dimensions joins Layers and Echoes to form a trio of incredibly useful effects processing plugins, for adding depth and character to your mixes. Although Softube has built its name with analogue-modelling softsynths and processing plugins, the company is also constantly trying to add value for users of the Console 1 DAW control system.

The plugin doesn’t just resemble the cover of an iconic Joy Division album for nothing. With a similar workflow and interface layout to Layers and Echoes, Dimensions gives you six different algorithms including spring, plate, room, concert hall, random hall, and cathedral.
As you flip through the reverb modes, you’ll notice the algorithm-specific controls to the immediate right change, giving you the basic controls to shape your sound.
At first, you might think that having a total of six reverb algorithms is rather limited. However, with this selection of reverbs and their respective controls, you can create a wide range of classic reverb sounds, from mechanical plates to expansive halls.
In the center of the interface below the impressive-looking visualizer, you’ll find the global controls including pre-delay, dark/bright slider, decay time, and wet/dry mix. This gives you all the essential controls for shaping the tonality and depth of your reverb.
Meanwhile, Softube has also added a Shimmer effect to introduce the expressive sound made popular in different styles of ambient and electronic music. Like the main reverb signal, you can set the frequency range of the Shimmer effect with the high-cut filter, and the mix amount, pitch, feedback, and attack controls allow you to shape the Shimmer separately from the reverb.
Overall, the Dimensions plugin promises to be a great addition to your plugin library, and not only for Console 1 users. While there is a certain less-is-more approach to the interface design, you have enough controls to shape your own reverb sounds quickly and easily.
