Apple could soon start shipping the Mac Studio M4, the next generation of its desktop computers, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman has revealed. And it could be as soon as the first quarter of 2025. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to say anything specific about features and price just yet – that’s the way Apple likes it. If Gurman is right, as he usually is, we’ll know more very soon!
Mac Studio M4: Powerful Updates and New Technologies in 2025
According to market analyst Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to launch the Mac Studio M4 with the new M4 Max and M4 Ultra chips in the near future, by the first half of 2025 at the latest. These powerful processors are expected to push the boundaries of desktop performance following the release of the MacBook Pro M4 and Mac mini M4. The M4 Max, already in the current MacBook Pro, features a 16-core CPU and 40-core graphics processor.
The M4 Ultra, an evolution with a 32-core CPU and 80-core GPU, promises a huge performance boost made possible by Apple’s UltraFusion technology. In addition to processing power, the Mac Studio M4 is expected to feature Thunderbolt 5 ports and possibly Wi-Fi 7 for faster connections and reduced signal interference.
M4 Ultra, Max and More? The New Chips in the Mac Studio M4
The new Mac Studio M4 is said to be clearly differentiated from the Mac Pro, which could also use either the M4 Ultra or a dedicated chip. Although there are reports of the new Mac Pro chip being discontinued, it remains to be seen whether Apple will implement this differentiation. The decision to update the Mac Studio early was also influenced by the powerful M4 Pro Mac mini, which outperformed the previous Mac Studio in some benchmarks.
The new Mac Studio M4 is expected to be unveiled in late spring or at the latest at WWDC25. With its planned state-of-the-art hardware and new interfaces, the Mac Studio M4 will once again be one of the leading machines for creative professionals and performance-intensive applications.
Apple’s aim is to restore order to the Mac line and ensure the competitiveness of its desktop range. And (hopefully) with good value for money – unfortunately, final pricing and specs are not yet available. We will of course keep you up to date.
