Studer A80-VU II: The Analog Heart of a Beatles Studio Era

Ringo Starr used the Studer A80-VU II in his personal studio, Startling Studios, at his estate in Tittenhurst Park. The unit comes with four original Dolby 360-1 modules and a certificate of authenticity from famed sound engineer Eddie Veale, who modified the unit to Starr’s specifications.

After Ringo Starr sold the unit in 1988, the Studer A80-VU II passed through several hands before ending up in the studio of Dutch DJ Lex van Coeverden. Decades later, the machine remains a symbol of the Beatles’ pioneering musical experiments.

Van Coeverden describes the machine as not only technically impressive, but also emotionally profound: ‘This machine carries its history within it, it is like a silent witness to a musical revolution’. He used the tape machine for over a decade, incorporating its analogue warmth and uniqueness into his productions, before deciding to pass it on to a new creative musician.
