The Flock Audio Switch is a useful desktop switching unit with digital control, for dealing with a range of different signals in your setup.

If you haven’t heard of Flock Audio, the Texan manufacturer specializes in building software-controlled patchbays with analogue signal path. As you can imagine, these designs are generally on the high end of the market, so we’re excited to explore the new Switch, which looks geared toward home studios.

The Switch is a routing system for up to eight stereo channels, with a customizable LCD display that lets you know exactly which instrument in your studio is running into your DAW. This is a perfect solution for small home studios with loads of synths, samplers, and drum machines without the space for a large mixing desk.

With the 16 TRS inputs, any signal from a mic preamp, a DI box, an instrument, or an AES/EBU device can be sent into your DAW for recording, and the rotary wheel allows you to quickly flip to your next sound source when you’re done.

The Switch is powered via USB-C, which means you can use an adapter or run it directly into your computer, which is necessary to communicate with the accompanying Switch desktop app.

The advanced display also allows you to configure the backlight levels, and there are additional functions such as individual channel mute and bypass, as well as global mute.

Overall, with its impressive Flock Audio construction and sound quality, the Switch is an impressive studio tool that is likely to become a completely innocuous part of your music production workflow.
