The United Studio Technologies UT Twin48 is a dual-mode tube condenser that gives you the U47 and U48 characteristics in one microphone.

The UT Twin48 has been meticulously designed to bring back the legendary tube sound of the late-1940s and 1950s. With an amplification stage built around the EF86 pentode glass vacuum tube, the UT Twin48 has that monstrously warm and present character we know and love.
From the external power supply, you can switch between the four available polar patterns within the two operating modes. Besides the omnidirectional and figure-of-8 patterns, there are two cardioid pattern modes with slightly different applications. If you’re recording in a great-sounding room, 47 Cardioid provides increased sensitivity for realism and detail by de-coupling the UT Twin48’s rear diaphragm.
Alternatively, the 48 Cardioid or Active Cardioid mode gives you a tighter, warmer overall sound by polarizing the mic’s rear diaphragm with the same voltage level as its backplate.
With these two distinctively different recording characteristics, you have the potential to capture a wide range of vocalists in different music styles. What’s more, you can record backup vocals as well as horn and string ensembles with the figure-of-8 mode, while the omni mode is perfect for ambient room mic placement.
