Connect 4/12: Bitwig Surprises With Perfect Bitwig Studio Hardware
New All-in-one Hardware from Bitwig!
With the Connect 4/12, Bitwig has taken a big step into the world of hardware. This versatile device combines the functions of a high-quality audio interface, a DAW controller and a CV/MIDI hub. Wow! With four inputs and twelve outputs, it gives you a flexible interface for seamless integration of digital and analogue technology. And, of course, it works perfectly with our own Bitwig Studio DAW. My guess: this is just the beginning of new hardware from the Berlin-based developer – I’m very curious to see what’s next!
Bitwig Connect 4/12: The Perfect Link Between Analog and Digital
Bitwig has surprised us with its first piece of hardware – and of course it goes well with its own DAW. More than just an audio interface, the Connect 4/12 is designed to serve as an interface between the analogue and digital worlds. It features two DC-coupled inputs and four outputs, optimised for modular systems and other CV-based devices. With its robust design and intuitive user interface, Connect 4/12 is aimed at studio users and, of course, live performers.
The central control element is the high-resolution rotary knob, which works in conjunction with six mode buttons to provide a wide range of functions. From precise control of input gain and output volume to automation in Bitwig Studio, the dial makes complex studio and stage workflows clear and simple. The 32-colour LED display provides a visual representation of parameter values and automation movements. This functionality, combined with the ability to save gain settings directly into your DAW, ensures a smooth workflow and seamless integration with your software.
Intelligent Control Meets Great Sound
The direct connection to Bitwig Studio is logical. It enables a new way of working with Connect 4/12 and the DAW. Exclusive Bitwig mode allows direct control of software parameters, including timeline, automation and modulation. Simply move the cursor or double-tap to make targeted and intuitive settings, while the LEDs adapt to the colour coding of your DAW. Very cool!
The audio quality of the Connect 4/12 is also worth mentioning: with support for 192 kHz at 24 bits, high-quality microphone preamps and proven AKM converters, the unit offers professional sound reproduction. Whether you’re capturing fine sound details or working on complex sound design, the new interface always delivers clear and dynamic performance. The robust steel construction and USB-C power supply make the unit a reliable companion, equally at home in mobile and stationary studio applications.
With the introduction of Bitwig Studio 5.3, the potential of the Connect 4/12 is further enhanced. Improved audio settings and the ability to combine multiple audio interfaces provide added flexibility. A surprising announcement, but certainly a logical step to make the Bitwig Studio DAW even easier and more expandable with other devices. Will we be seeing more gadgets soon (maybe even at Superbooth 2025)? I could well imagine it.
