Marshall SN20CH Studio 900: 20W JCM900
New modern JCM900 style Marshall SN20CH Studio 900 head and combo
The new Marshall SN20CH Studio 900 has been revealed at NAMM and is based on the JCM900 series of tube amps. It is available as a 20-watt head or a combo format and offers neat, modern updates.
SN20CH Studio 900
Based on the two-channel ’90s JCM900 amps, the Studio 900 has two ECC83 preamp valves, two 5881 power amp valves, and an ECC83 phase splitter, delivering the authentic sound of its 100W predecessor while producing a more manageable 20W output.
Power Scaling
The amp also comes with power scaling that allows users to run it at 5W and 1W, making it perfect for use at home and in the studio. This amp will happily do clean, crunch, and gain tones across the two channels, and it comes with a spring reverb built in. Making it an ideal amp for many situations where you want that Marshall tone.
The two channels share Treble, Middle, Bass, and Presence controls and dedicated Master Volume and Reverb controls for each channel. Plus, Preamp Gain controls for both channels
Combo
The combo version is loaded with a single Celestion G12T-75 12″ speaker. Both versions have a DI output speaker emulated output and an effects loop. This allows them to fit nicely into many situations and makes them perfect for recording with and integrating your favourite effects.
Verdict
These new modern takes on the classic JCM900 Series of amplifiers will be perfect for many players, as they can be tamed and they have recording outs, which makes them ideal for studio work.
The SN20CH Studio 900 Head is priced at $1,029 / £1,022 / €1189 and the Combo is $1,111 / £1,111 / €1295.
